Hola - I’m Kenzie “Millerman” Miller, I supervise the Twilight School at the Sidney
Johnson Vocational Center, Syracuse, NY. I work with HS dropouts helping them
successfully recover missing credits on-line. Previously I taught middle school
social studies at Lincoln Middle school for 20 years. I’m also an adventure
educator w/over 20 years of experience.
My adventure journey began
with a school-based program intended to reduce violence as well as develop
refusal and leadership skills in middle level urban students. As I grew in the
field I found it a natural way to connect my unique teaching philosophy with my
desire to see my students succeed, not only in the classroom but also in life. Urban teaching brings with it a unique set of challenges
and rewards. Adventure is an outstanding process to overcome these issues and
build on the strengths of a diverse community of learners. It’s a way for kids
to see that even in our differences we are all part of one human family. I’ve attended professional
facilitation trainings, am certified to facilitate at several local and
regional ropes challenge courses, have co-facilitated Syracuse City School
District teacher professional development programs for over 12 years in the use
of adventure philosophies and techniques in the classroom as well as ropes
course facilitator certification classes. Tom, Erick, Kevin, and I have worked
together for over 15 years helping all types of groups achieve their goals.
